GFF Empowers New Referees to Strengthen Football Community

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) is taking proactive steps to train individuals interested in becoming football referees. In a recent training session held in Linden, 21 participants successfully completed the course with an impressive 98% pass rate.

Conducted by Lenval Peart, the GFF’s Referee Project Officer, the program drew participants from various communities in Region 10. Peart expressed satisfaction with the turnout, emphasizing that the interest in referee training demonstrates the passion for football within the community.

As part of their efforts to expand capacity, the GFF is actively encouraging female football enthusiasts to join their referee ranks. Currently, the initiative has attracted three female participants, reflecting a positive step towards gender inclusivity in football officiating.

The high success rate in the Beginners course means that all 21 trainees will progress to the next phase of their training. Peart highlighted that pursuing a career in refereeing offers numerous benefits and opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Abdool ‘Zeko’ Hamid, a local referee assessor and instructor, emphasized the positive impact of having trained referees in Linden. He expressed enthusiasm about the keen interest displayed by young individuals in the program.

Individuals between the ages of 16 and 25 who are interested in joining the course can contact Abdool ‘Zeko’ Hamid at 684-6115.
