GFA Launches Senior Football League, Set to Kick Off on Sunday

The Georgetown Football Association (GFA) officially launched the 2024 edition of their Senior Clubs Football League on Thursday.

With the tournament set to commence this Sunday, June 2nd, and conclude on August 4th, football enthusiasts are gearing up for an exciting two-month spectacle.

Ten clubs are set to compete in the tournament, vying for top honors and a chance to claim the coveted championship title.

Among the participating teams are renowned clubs such as Pele, Georgetown Football Club, East Veldt, Northern Rangers, Camptown, Vengy, Riddim Squad, Black Pearl, Order and Discipline FC, and Beacon.

The tournament promises fierce competition, with the finals scheduled for August 19th.

The winning team will receive a handsome prize of half a million dollars, with $300,000 earmarked for the second-place finisher, and $200,000 and $100,000 allocated for the third and fourth-place teams, respectively.

Wayne Forde, President of the Guyana Football Federation, emphasized the importance of the GFA’s initiative in organizing and launching the Senior Football League.

He highlighted the crucial role of football clubs in not only providing support but also seeking corporate sponsors to assist in financing their programs and initiatives.

Sponsored by Insurance Brokers Guyana Limited and Guyson, the Senior Football League represents a significant milestone for the GFA and the football community in Guyana.

At the launch event, each participating club was presented with a certificate in recognition of fulfilling their obligations to the association, including the submission of official club documents and financial reports.

The commencement of the Senior Football League marks an exciting period for football enthusiasts across Georgetown, as they eagerly anticipate the thrills and excitement that this prestigious tournament will bring to the local football scene.
