The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is moving forward with its plan to modernize Georgetown’s water supply system.

This next phase will involve replacing outdated pipelines in several major areas of the city.

Marlon Daniels, Executive Director of Projects at GWI, explained the project in a recent interview with NCN News.

The current focus is on installing new transmission lines running from Broad Street to the Pegasus Hotel.

Once completed, the network will be extended from the Bank of Guyana Junction to the Parliament Building and onward to Broad Street.

These upgrades will create a loop around the city, connecting all the treatment plants.

This improved network will allow for increased water pressure and better service for residents.

The project is part of a larger effort to improve Georgetown’s infrastructure.

GWI is collaborating with the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Local Government to ensure that water network upgrades coincide with road expansion initiatives.

This coordinated approach aims to minimize disruption and ensure a more efficient use of resources.

By replacing aging pipelines and working alongside other government departments, GWI is laying the groundwork for a more reliable water supply and a more livable city for Georgetown residents.

While there may be some traffic disruptions during off-peak hours as work progresses, the long-term benefits are significant.
