A national cleanup exercise was held today across Georgetown as part of efforts to enhance the city’s cleanliness and beauty.
Residents and volunteers turned out in large numbers to support the initiative, which focused on removing garbage from key areas throughout the capital.
Public Works Minister Juan Edghill, who participated in the cleanup, stressed the importance of personal responsibility among citizens and the role of the Mayor and City Council in maintaining a clean environment.
Minister Edghill highlighted the need for residents to properly dispose of their garbage and called for better enforcement of regulations to prevent illegal dumping.
Additionally, Captain Gerry Gouveia of the Private Sector Commission, who also participated, emphasized the need for more surveillance cameras in strategic locations to monitor and penalize individuals who engage in indiscriminate dumping.
He noted that some areas required the use of heavy machinery and protective masks due to the severe accumulation of waste.
The cleanup exercise was carried out across major streets in Georgetown, including Thomas Street, East Street, and Woolford Avenue.
