Georgetown U19 Girls’ Volleyball Team Triumphs in Inaugural President’s Cup

In an exciting conclusion to the inaugural President’s Cup Volleyball Tournament, the Georgetown U19 Girls’ Academy outclassed their Berbice counterparts with a thrilling performance at the National Gymnasium over the weekend.

The match began with intense competition, as Georgetown narrowly edged out Berbice in the first set with a 25-23 victory.

Despite the setback, the Berbice team rallied and showcased their strength in the second set, winning decisively 25-16 to level the match.

The third and final set proved to be the decider. With both teams eager for victory, Georgetown, supported by a small but passionate crowd, demonstrated superior teamwork and determination.

They dominated the final set, securing a 15-7 win to claim the title.

Alica Davis, Head Coach of the Georgetown Volleyball Academy, commented on the victory: “It was an excellent match coming up against a team like Berbice under 19 girls who would have represented Guyana. We definitely did not expect to win, but I knew the girls had the fundamentals of volleyball down to the core. We didn’t have much attack, so we based a lot of our play on defending the ball.”

The volleyball tournament was one of six sporting disciplines featured in the President’s Cup, highlighting the growing talent and competitive spirit across the country.
