The Solid Waste Department of Georgetown’s Mayor and City Council (M&CC) is set to implement proactive measures toward recycling and waste separation in the upcoming year.
Walter Narine, Head of the Solid Waste Department, shared insights into the M&CC’s plans during an exclusive interview with NCN News.
As part of their efforts to enhance solid waste management, the M&CC aims to initiate plastic separation and recycling. Narine outlined the plan, expressing the goal of enforcing waste separation to eliminate mixed waste.
The envisioned outcome is a segregated waste stream consisting of plastic, boxes, plastic bottles, and other categorized items.
Narine further disclosed plans to launch an awareness initiative focused on recycling practices and waste separation.
The initiative aims to educate residents on the advantages of recycling and the detrimental effects of improper waste disposal on the environment.
Pending approval of the plans in the council budget, the M&CC will move forward with educating the public on waste separation, with the intention of reusing separated materials to create new items.
Highlighting the importance of waste separation in the waste management chain, Narine emphasized its role in achieving effective reuse, recycling, and recovery.
