The Georgetown Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association (GCUSA) recently took significant steps to elevate the skills and professionalism of its members by collaborating with international umpires during the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League held in Guyana.
This initiative, organized in partnership with the Guyana Cricket Board and CPL match officials, provided local umpires with invaluable insights into the protocols and decision-making processes used at the international level.
Chandraban Rajnarine, the Public Relations Officer of GCUSA, highlighted that this program was a continuation of previous theoretical sessions, aimed at exposing participating umpires to TV umpiring.
For many, it was their first experience with this aspect of officiating, while others benefited from further exposure after prior training.
Rajnarine expressed gratitude for the supportive environment created by the international match officials, umpires coach, and match referee.
Their interactions with the local umpires were tailored to enhance the training experience, which was well-received.
The initiative is anticipated to have a lasting positive impact on the quality of umpiring in the country.
Many umpires expressed their eagerness to continue their involvement in the sport following the sessions, indicating a commitment to ongoing development in their officiating careers.
