February 18, 2025

The Georgetown Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association (GCUSA), in collaboration with the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), successfully hosted a Level One Match Referee Training Course over the weekend at the National Racquet Centre on Woolford Avenue.

Chandranban Rajnarine, Public Relations Officer of the GCUSA, praised the completion of the course, noting its role in equipping participants with the necessary knowledge to officiate at local matches.

The course, which lasted two days, attracted 22 participants, including seven females.

Among the attendees were two women who traveled from Charity in Essequibo, underscoring the growing interest in cricket officiating across Guyana.

Rajnarine highlighted that the training covered crucial aspects of match refereeing, including the roles and responsibilities of a match referee, the code of conduct and disciplinary procedures, match management, and practical case studies.

The course was designed for aspiring match referees, umpires transitioning to refereeing, former cricketers, coaches, and administrators.

This initiative is a step forward in strengthening the pool of qualified cricket officials in Guyana, with Rajnarine encouraging more individuals to continue advancing their officiating skills.
