Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association Pays Tribute to WO Jason Khan

The Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) gathered at the National Gymnasium on Wednesday to pay tribute to the late Warrant Officer Class Two Jason Khan, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash.

WO Jason Khan was a basketball player associated with the Guyana Defence Force.

During the commemorative event, Second Lieutenant Jermaine Slater, President of GABA and a fellow soldier in the Guyana Defence Force, shared reflections on his relationship with Khan and the significant contributions he made to the sport of basketball.

Slater emphasized that Khan was not just a teammate but a valued member of the basketball community.

Lt. Jermaine Slater also took a moment to honor the memory of the other soldiers who lost their lives in the helicopter crash. Khan, along with Brigadier Gary Beaton, Colonel Michael Shahoud, and Lt. Col. Sean Welcome, will be laid to rest on Friday.

During a recent night of reflection for the five national heroes, Khan was posthumously elevated to the position of Warrant Officer Class 2.

His military journey began in 2005, and over the years, he demonstrated dedication and growth, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant in 2020.

Khan, aged 36, served in the 31st Special Force Squadron and pursued educational achievements, earning a certificate in electrical installation.

Lt. Colonel Mike Charles, the pilot involved in the crash, was laid to rest on Wednesday.

The Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association, along with the broader community, mourns the loss of WO Jason Khan and pays tribute to his contributions on and off the basketball court.
