The inaugural Under 23 Club Championship organized by the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) has concluded on a high note, with President Jermaine Slater expressing satisfaction and outlining plans to establish the league as an annual event.

President Slater emphasized the tournament’s success, attributing it to effective partnerships forged with both the private and public sectors.

He highlighted the importance of collaboration in ensuring the tournament’s smooth execution.

According to Slater, the Under 23 League serves as a crucial steppingstone for young players, preparing them for higher-level competitions.

He noted the talent and skill displayed by participants from 12 clubs across the country, including Kwakwani, Bartica, and Berbice.

Looking ahead, Slater revealed plans to expand the league format and increase the number of games in future editions.

He expressed confidence that many of the young talents showcased in this tournament would transition to the senior levels, contributing to the excitement and competitiveness of the One Guyana Basketball League.

In the championship’s thrilling finale, Bounty Colts secured a narrow 76-75 victory over Kwakwani Untouchables, with Carmelo Man-Son-Hing earning the title of Most Valuable Player.

The success of the Under 23 Club Championship underscores GABA’s commitment to developing basketball talent at grassroots levels and fostering a vibrant basketball culture in Guyana.
