Following a fire that ravaged one of the major generators at Beharry Automotive on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, concerns over fire safety measures have been raised.

Upon responding to the emergency, firefighters evacuated staff from nearby buildings within the compound.

Station Officer Operations, Rovin Thomas, highlighted the challenges faced in combating the blaze, which had engulfed the generator room upon their arrival.

Despite these hurdles, firefighting teams managed to control the fire using foam and breathing apparatus sets.

Initial investigations revealed a power failure prior to the fire, indicating the sole reliance on one generator for power at the premises.

Thomas emphasized the need for adequate fire safety equipment, noting deficiencies in the existing provisions.

The incident underscores the importance of robust fire safety protocols and prevention methods.

Thomas urged individuals and businesses to prioritize fire safety practices to mitigate future risks.

As investigations continue into the cause of the fire, attention to fire safety measures remains paramount to safeguarding lives and property.
