The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security will host a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Symposium on Sunday, September 22, at the Arthur Chung Conference Center.

The event, themed “Advancing Medical Responses to Gender-Based Violence in Guyana,” aims to raise awareness and educate citizens about the ongoing efforts to address gender-based violence.

Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, highlighted that the symposium will showcase the ministry’s work over the past three years and provide crucial information about tackling GBV.

The minister is inviting the general public to attend, emphasizing that the event is free and offers valuable learning opportunities.

Medical professionals attending the symposium will benefit from Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits, with three credits available for nurses and six credits pending approval for doctors.

The symposium will cover various topics, including recognizing the signs of GBV, reporting mechanisms, and mental health’s connection to GBV.

The symposium will commence at 6:00 a.m. and will include presentations on the available support services, such as CopSquad 2000, SAFE vouchers, and the 914 hotline, which have been instrumental in assisting GBV victims and responders.
