GEI Conducts Over 13,000 Electrical Inspections in 2024

By Delicia Janneire | January 21, 2025

The Guyana Electrical Inspectorate (GEI), operating within the Ministry of Public Works, completed 13,476 electrical inspections in 2024, marking a significant increase in its inspection efforts compared to previous years.

The inspections covered a range of facilities, including government agencies and ministries such as Health, Education, the Deeds and Commercial Registry, and the Guyana Wildlife Conservation Management Commission.

This increase in the number of inspections, up from 7,468 inspections conducted between 2022 and 2023, was attributed largely to the completion of numerous housing schemes and industrial complexes.

In addition to inspections, the GEI issued 124 licenses to qualified electrical contractors, further supporting the industry’s growth and safety standards.

Looking ahead, the GEI plans to enhance its focus on training in 2025.

It is set to launch an Electrical Contractor’s Licensing program, in collaboration with the Board of Industrial Training, which will be offered through the online platform Coursera.

As a safety body under the Ministry of Public Works, the Guyana Electrical Inspectorate plays a vital role in protecting the public from electrical hazards and ensuring that electrical installations adhere to safety regulations.

The department also manages the licensing process for electrical contractors in the country.
