The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is urging eligible citizens to take advantage of the ongoing continuous registration process, which is set to conclude in eleven days.

The current cycle has seen significant activity, with over 20,000 transactions completed.

In an exclusive interview with NCN News, GECOM Public Relations Officer Yolanda Warde highlighted the range of transactions processed, including new registrations, changes, corrections, replacements, and transfers.

According to Warde, GECOM has recorded 9,088 new registrants and 6,050 replacements so far.

Warde detailed the categorization of registrants, noting that Category A includes eligible electors aged 18 and older, with 6,262 individuals registered to date.

Category B comprises persons aged 14 to 17, accounting for 2,826 transactions.

Additionally, 1,900 individuals have applied for transfers, and 1,701 have made changes or corrections to their particulars.

With the registration cycle ending on May 31, Warde emphasized the importance of verifying one’s inclusion on the electoral list, especially given the qualifying date of June 30.

She reiterated that eligible persons aged 14 and older by June 30 should register during this cycle.

Warde also reminded citizens that only original documents are accepted for any transaction, stressing the importance of compliance with documentation requirements.

The continuous registration process is vital for ensuring the integrity and inclusivity of Guyana’s electoral system, allowing citizens to maintain an accurate and up-to-date voters’ list and exercise their democratic right to participate in the electoral process.
