–Four award categories to recognise businesses of all sizes advancing renewable energy and energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management and green building solutions
The Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) has launched the inaugural Energy Champions Awards and opened nominations for all businesses, regardless of size, across the country.
The awards aim to recognise small, medium-sized and large-scale businesses that are demonstrating measurable impact by adopting renewable energy solutions, implementing energy efficiency measures, and promoting responsible water conservation, waste management, and green building practices. The deadline for submitting nominations is Monday, August 31, 2026.
Through these efforts, participating businesses are making meaningful contributions toward Guyana’s greener, more resilient and low-carbon future, in keeping with the goals of the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) 2030, while supporting socio-economic development.
This new initiative seeks to celebrate the achievements of businesses that are improving operational efficiency and productivity, reducing their environmental footprint, and advancing green growth through sustainable business models. It also highlights the important role these businesses play in fostering a culture of environmental sustainability that benefits their employees and the wider community.
The Award Focus Areas encompass four key categories: Energy, Water, Waste, and Green Building.
The Energy category recognises the adoption of renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency innovations that reduce energy consumption, while enhancing overall performance, comfort, and productivity. The Water category highlights sustainable water and stewardship practices, including responsible conservation measures and effective management of water resources. The Waste category focuses on effective waste reduction and circular systems that support sustainable waste management through practices such as reducing, reusing, and recycling materials. The Green Building category recognises the adoption of environmentally responsible building design, construction, operation, and maintenance practices.
The awards are open to businesses of all sizes in Guyana, with nominations accepted across three categories based on the number of employees: Small Businesses (1-25 employees), Medium-sized Businesses (26-100 employees), and Large-scale Businesses (101 or more employees).
To be eligible, all applicants must be registered and operating in Guyana for a minimum of two years and possess the relevant authorisations. Each applicant must submit a completed application form and a project brief outlining their sustainability initiatives, supported by the relevant descriptions, data, photographs, and other evidence demonstrating the impact of the sustainable energy initiatives that were adopted in the business.
Additionally, the application forms, project brief, as well as the guidelines can be downloaded from the Guyana Energy Agency’s (GEA) website at https://gea.gov.gy/, collected from the GEA’s office located at 295 Quamina Street, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown, or accessed by scanning the QR code featured on the official promotional flyer. The completed application forms and project briefs must be submitted via email to gea@gea.gov.gy or delivered in person to the GEA’s office on or before the nomination deadline.
The Energy Champions Awards is an initiative that reaffirms the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA)’s continued commitment to advancing the country’s sustainable energy transition, while recognising businesses that are championing innovation, sustainability, and responsible energy practices in support of building Guyana’s low-carbon economy.
