GDF Triumphs over Alphas in Demerara Volleyball Association’s Senior Club League

In a thrilling match-up at the National Gymnasium, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) volleyball club emerged victorious over Alphas, showcasing an intense battle in the Demerara Volleyball Association’s Senior Club League.

The GDF team, led by Omari Joseph, delivered an outstanding performance, securing a hard-fought victory in a closely contested first set with a score of 25-21.

However, Alphas volleyball team demonstrated resilience, bouncing back strongly in the subsequent sets.

Powered by Paul Welcome’s 18 points and Geno Caroll’s 11 points, Alphas claimed the second and third sets with scores of 25-17 and 25-18, respectively.

Undeterred, the GDF squad showcased remarkable determination, rallying to win the fourth set with a score of 26-24, forcing the match into a decider.

In the decisive fifth set, GDF, led by Mark Stanley and Steffon Norah, exhibited exceptional skill and teamwork, securing a 15-12 victory and clinching the match.

With this triumph, the GDF team now sits at the top of the league standings, having secured their second win after defeating the Premier Eagles volleyball club earlier in the week, accumulating 5 points.

Despite the loss, Alphas share the top spot with 5 points, having secured one victory and one loss, while Castrol Strikers follow closely behind with 4 points.

The league, scheduled to run until July, will continue its exciting action from the 25th to the 29th of March, featuring matches throughout the week.
