The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) football team returned to the KFC Elite League with a solid 4-2 victory over Western Tigers, marking a successful resumption of their title defense.

The reigning champions bounced back from their first-round exit in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Shield, showing dominance in their home league.

Western Tigers took an early lead in the 10th minute, courtesy of Michael Oie.

However, GDF quickly responded with an equalizer from Abumchi Benjamin in the 14th minute, bringing the score to 1-1.

Kelsey Benjamin then gave GDF the lead in the 52nd minute, only for Oie to level the game again for the Tigers in the 59th minute.

In injury time, GDF’s Ian Dooker netted twice, in the 90+1 and 90+6 minutes, securing the team’s second place on the points table.

The win marked GDF’s 14th victory in 15 games, alongside one draw.

Elsewhere, Police FC remained in third place with a narrow 1-0 win over Fruta Conquerors FC.

Neron Barrow’s 16th-minute goal proved decisive, as Police held on to claim their 12th win after 16 matches.

Slingerz FC remains at the top of the table with 13 wins and 3 draws, while Santos and Western Tigers round out the top five.

The KFC Elite League will conclude on August 24, with the top team set to receive a grand prize of $2 million, while second and third place will walk away with $1.2 million and $800,000, respectively.
