GDF Helicopter Crash Survivors and Deceased Servicemen Flown to the City

The survivors of the Bell-412 helicopter accident, Lieutenant Andio Crawford and Corporal Dwayne Jackson, have been successfully extracted and flown to the city.

The two survivors are currently undergoing medical treatment in a hospital.

After the extraction, they were transported to the Blake-Slater Aerodrome for medical checks and subsequently flown to the Eugene F. Correia International Airport, Ogle.

At the airport, they were received by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Dr. Mohammed Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister Brigadier Mark Phillips, and their respective family members.

Following this, they were transported by ambulance for further medical examinations.

Simultaneously, the bodies of the five servicemen who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty—Retired Brigadier Gary Beaton, Commander of First Infantry Battalion Michael Shahoud, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Charles, Lieutenant Colonel Sean Welcome, and Staff Sergeant Jason Khan—were also brought to the city.

The arrival of the deceased servicemen was marked by homage-paying ceremonies, attended by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, family members, and others.

The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority has initiated an investigation into the helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday.
