In a remarkable display of skill and prowess, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) women’s team, led by standout performances from Sandra Johnson and Glendy Lewis, secured a resounding victory over Fruta Conquerors in the GFF Women’s League Division One.
At the Guyana Football Federation National Training Centre, the GDF women’s team showcased their dominance with an emphatic 16-0 triumph over Fruta Conquerors.
Sandra Johnson emerged as the star of the match, demonstrating her scoring prowess with an outstanding six goals.
Her strikes came at crucial moments, spanning both halves of the game, as she found the back of the net in the 8th, 34th, 37th, 49th, 62nd, and 90th minutes.
Glendy Lewis also played a pivotal role in Fruta Conquerors’ defeat, contributing five goals of her own in the 1st, 45th, 42nd, 84th, and 87th minutes.
Jalade Trim and Glengie Lewis added to the onslaught with doubles, while Shenessa Cornelius sealed the comprehensive victory with another goal.
Speaking after the match, GDF skipper Jalade Trim emphasized the team’s focus on executing their game plan, which ultimately led to their impressive goal-scoring spree.
The Women’s League Division One serves as a platform for players to showcase their talents for national team selection and attract attention from professional football clubs.
The action in the division one women’s league will continue next Saturday at the Bartica Community Centre ground, where Potaro Strikers will face off against champions GDF FC.
