The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has declared its preparedness to address any security challenges arising from the ongoing Guyana/Venezuela border dispute.
This assurance was conveyed by Chief of Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, during the opening ceremony of the Force’s 58th anniversary celebration.
In a resolute message to the men and women in uniform, Brigadier Khan affirmed that their mission to defend the nation is ‘non-negotiable’.
He emphasized the imperative for all military personnel to maintain vigilance, particularly in these times, and to safeguard the nation’s patrimony in order to secure Guyana’s borders.
Brigadier Khan underscored the GDF’s proven track record of readiness and capability in defending the sovereignty of the nation.
He highlighted the force’s evolution over 58 years, incorporating the use of technology and modern equipment to bolster its primary role of deterring aggression and safeguarding territorial integrity.
The Chief of Staff emphasized that this responsibility cannot be delegated, and he pledged to ensure the Force remains prepared for any eventuality.
He also acknowledged the commitment of the commander in chief to provide ongoing support for the acquisition of modern assets across land, air, sea, and cyberspace platforms.
These acquisitions will be aligned with training and tailored to address evolving threats.
In the face of acts of aggression demonstrated by Venezuela, Brigadier Khan affirmed Guyana’s unwavering resolve.
He praised the dedication and service of GDF personnel, instilling confidence in the nation that the Force will unwaveringly fulfill its defense function.
As tensions persist in the border controversy, the GDF’s resolute stance and preparedness send a clear message of determination in safeguarding Guyana’s territorial integrity.
