Prospective borrowers applying for financing through the Guyana Development Bank can expect to be contacted within approximately 30 days.

This was disclosed by Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation, Zulfikar Ally, during a sensitization exercise with residents of the Moruca Sub-Region, earlier today.

“We’re hoping that within 30 days we can get back to you. Either you have you give us all the information and we can get back to you within 30 days, or we will call you and said we need a little more information,” he said.

Today marks one month since the bank’s official launch, with Ally revealing that thousands of applications have already been received.

He explained that the bank aims to help aspiring entrepreneurs to realized business ideas  and support small-business owners in expanding their operations.

“So you want to just type in there what is it you want the money for? Stop up my business, start a small business, get into a small farming, whatever it is you want. You put it in there and you press send. When you press send, it will come to us, come to the bank. They will evaluate it. They will call you. They will sit with you. They will work with you, and you can start your business,” he said.
The Minister also disclosed that he has engaged several commercial banks to visit hinterland communities to help residents open bank accounts.

Discussions will also be held on placing ATMs in the region to improve access to banking services.
