January 20, 2025

The Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) has officially launched the Pegasus Chess Club in collaboration with Pegasus Hotel.

The event took place at the hotel’s Kingston Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre on Sunday.

The newly established club aims to offer a welcoming environment for both casual and competitive players to learn and share their passion for chess.

This collaboration between GCF and Pegasus Hotel spans a two-year agreement.

The Pegasus Chess Club will be open to members on Sundays from 11 am to 6 pm and will also be available to guests of the hotel.

Monthly memberships are available for both casual and professional players.

Brandon Badal, Managing Director of Pegasus Hotel Guyana, expressed that the club was an important step in contributing to the growth of chess in the country.

To mark the launch, Badal participated in a ceremonial first match against FIDE Master Anthony Drayton.

Anand Raghunauth, President of the Guyana Chess Federation, noted that the new club will benefit local sports by increasing community participation and providing a venue for promoting Guyana’s chess talent.

He encouraged other stakeholders to engage in this initiative, helping to nurture and grow the chess community.

The club will also host GCF tournaments, further solidifying its role in developing chess in Guyana.

The Pegasus Chess Club is set to be a cornerstone in the development and promotion of the sport in the region.
