The recently concluded National T20 League, featuring six teams, has been hailed as a significant achievement by the President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), Bissoondyal Singh.
The tournament, which saw 120 of Guyana’s best cricketers compete, was the first of its kind, with matches held across the counties of Essequibo, Demerara, and Berbice.
In reflecting on the tournament’s success, Singh described the event as “historical,” noting that it marked a milestone in Guyanese cricket.
He acknowledged the extensive planning and logistics involved, which included challenges such as limited ground availability and transportation issues.
Despite these obstacles, Singh praised the quality of talent displayed throughout the competition and emphasized the importance of harnessing and developing that talent to strengthen the future of cricket in Guyana.
Singh also highlighted the role of cricket as a unifying force in the country, which was evident during the tournament.
While expressing satisfaction with the overall execution, he pointed out areas for improvement in future editions, such as the desire to play on more grounds and addressing logistical concerns.
Looking ahead, the GCB president is optimistic about the future of the National T20 League, calling it a potential “major event” in the coming years.
He expressed excitement over its development, noting that it was a fully Guyanese initiative, with all players participating being from the country.
Singh concluded by stating that the tournament had been a success for both the GCB and the players, and he looked forward to its growth as a key event in the cricketing calendar.
