Dwayne Scott, the President of the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA), announced that the association is actively preparing a team of swimmers to represent Guyana in the forthcoming Pan American and Inter-Guiana Games.
The athletes selected for the Pan American Games include Olympian Aleka Persaud, Latisha Blair, multiple-time CARFITA medalist Raekwon Noel, Leon Seaton, and Paul Mahaica. Scott mentioned that Noel and Persaud are currently abroad, while Seaton has returned from his scholarship at the FINA program in Florida.
The 2023 Pan American Games, organized by the Panam Sports Organization, is scheduled to take place in Santiago, Chile, from October 20 to November 5. Simultaneously, GASA is also working on forming a swim team for the Inter-Guiana Games in Suriname, slated for October 26-31.
Coach Mary Chung is set to lead the national swim team at the IGG. Additionally, GASA has plans for a national short course meet and open water clinic next month, followed by an open water meet in Linden.
