The Guyana Association of Private Security Organizations (GAPSO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Trinidad and Tobago Private Security Organization to enhance professionalism and standards within the private security sector in Guyana.
This collaboration aims to address growing concerns about the suitability and effectiveness of local security personnel, particularly in light of the country’s expanding oil and gas industry.
Paul Defreitas, Vice President of GAPSO, highlighted that the demand for heightened security standards has increased alongside the rapid growth in Guyana’s economy.
The partnership seeks to address these needs through advanced training and information sharing, equipping local security personnel with the skills necessary to meet international standards.
A central aspect of the MoU is a focus on training initiatives. GAPSO aims to develop ranks into highly skilled professionals capable of delivering top-tier service to clients.
The partnership will also allow Guyanese security professionals to benefit from the expertise of regional counterparts, strengthening the industry across the Caribbean.
The MoU, signed in late October, is viewed as a foundational step toward broader regional cooperation in private security.
GAPSO hopes this agreement will serve as a model for collaboration among other Caribbean security organizations.
This move is expected to bolster the reputation and operational standards of private security companies in Guyana, ensuring they remain competitive in a rapidly evolving market.
