Funding for Sport Bodies to Be Aligned with Monitoring & Evaluation Strategy – Minister Ramson

Minister Charles Ramson Jr., responsible for sport, has assured continued financial support to sports associations as they develop their academy programs.

However, he emphasized that funds would be allocated based on a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation (M&E) strategy, taking into account the specific needs and successes of each association.

The minister highlighted the strategic approach taken by the ministry to ensure that funds are expended judiciously, aiming for maximum value for each dollar spent.

In December, the Ministry of Sport, Culture, and Youth announced a half-million-dollar subvention to eight core sports to facilitate the acquisition of equipment.

Minister Ramson emphasized that future subventions to associations and federations would be tailored to their specific needs and outcomes, avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach.

The core sports that received funding included rugby, tennis, table tennis, squash, swimming, volleyball, hockey, and badminton.

Football and cricket, being core sports, already received annual funding from their international bodies.

Looking ahead, Minister Ramson mentioned plans to expand the core sport program to include cycling and boxing in the coming years based on their respective successes.

He acknowledged the challenge faced by cycling due to the lack of a dedicated facility, a crucial feature of the core sports program.

However, efforts are underway to find a solution, with the National Sport Commission actively working towards addressing this issue.
