Free Mission Surgeries Bring Hope and Healing at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital

St. Joseph Mercy Hospital continues to expand access to compassionate healthcare through its ongoing Medical Mission Outreach programme, delivering free surgical procedures to patients in need across Guyana.

In collaboration with visiting United States-based surgical teams, the hospital has successfully conducted 7 mission surgery outreaches and last mission surgery was in the first week in May, aimed at serving vulnerable and underserved communities. Procedures completed during these missions have included hernia repairs, hydrocelectomies, breast lump removals, and other essential surgeries provided entirely free of cost to patients. Each outreach reaches out to over 20 patients.

The outreach programme reflects the hospital’s longstanding mission to provide quality healthcare services to all Guyanese “with a spirit of compassion, commitment, and professionalism.”

Chief Executive Officer, Mr Enoch Gaskin, Chief Operations Officer, Mr. Jerri Dias and hospital officials expressed gratitude to the international surgical teams, local doctors, nurses, and support staff whose dedication made the missions possible. Patients who benefited from the surgeries also shared heartfelt appreciation for the life-changing care received.

“Our mission outreach is about more than surgery; it is about restoring dignity, improving quality of life, and ensuring that those who are most vulnerable receive the care they deserve,” the hospital stated.

As one of Guyana’s leading not-for-profit healthcare institutions, St. Joseph Mercy Hospital remains committed to strengthening healthcare delivery through partnerships, innovation, and community outreach initiatives.
