Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha has announced the upcoming commissioning of four new pump stations across Guyana, marking a major milestone in the country’s agricultural development.

The new pump stations are set to be inaugurated in Trafalgar, Montrose, Liliendall, and Canal Polder in the coming weeks, further bolstering Guyana’s agricultural infrastructure.

The pump stations will complement four others already commissioned in Adventure, Greenidge Park, Cozier, and Andrews in Region Two.

These additions are part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance water management and flood prevention, particularly in regions prone to flooding, ensuring better irrigation and sustainable farming practices.

Minister Mustapha highlighted that since the PPP/C administration took office in 2020, over five billion dollars have been invested to improve agricultural infrastructure, supporting the sector’s growth and providing farmers with better facilities to increase productivity.

With the commissioning of these new pump stations, Guyana, often referred to as the “Breadbasket of the Caribbean,” is set to experience continued growth in its agricultural output and a more resilient sector to tackle challenges posed by environmental conditions.
