-In construction site electrocution

A construction worker was this morning killed after being electrocuted while at a worksite here at Caneview Avenue, two other workers were injured in the process. NCN News spoke with the owner of this building which belongs to Toucan Distributors, Andrew King and he said he received a call from the contractor saying they had a terrible accident and upon arriving at the scene this is what he saw.
“Got a phone call from the contractor who left the jobsite to go to another one of another jobsite said they got a really bad accident and sound like everybody dead turned out not to be so, so far there is one fatality and I hope the other two guys who were injured pulls through,” he said.
The deceased has been identified only as 36-year-old Yardon.
One of the injured men is 29-year-old labourer Troy Estriado, also known as “Labba,” of Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke-Linden Highway. The identity and address of the third injured man remain unknown.
All three workers are Cuban nationals.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the men were moving a several-tiered metal scaffold at the front of the building when it rolled and came into contact with a nearby electrical wire.
The contact resulted in all three men being electrocuted.
Two of the workers reportedly managed to crawl away after falling to the ground and were subsequently rescued.
Yardon, however, reportedly received the majority of the electrical current and was unable to escape. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The two injured men were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by emergency medical technicians. They remain in critical condition.
Yardon’s body has since been taken to Memorial Gardens, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The accident has also raised questions about safety measures at the construction site. King says the required occupational health and safety measures are in place.
“We have all the safety measures in place that are standard procedure, I would not be here to police and make sure it is all implemented on a daily basis but the contractors they have been doing a good job so far,” he said.
