Food Handlers Certificate for School Vendors: Mayor Sets Tone Ahead of Re-opening

By Jacquey Bourne

Linden Mayor Sharma Solomon has issued a stern directive ahead of the reopening of schools on Monday.

During the monthly statutory meeting at the Linden Mayor and Town Council’s Boardroom, Mayor Solomon emphasized that all vendors operating around schools must possess a valid Food Handlers certificate.

Additionally, they must obtain permission from the Head Teacher to vend on school premises.

Mayor Solomon urged Councilors to actively visit schools to ensure compliance with these regulations.

He underscored the importance of vendors being certified Food Handlers to uphold hygiene standards and protect the health of students.

Those found to be operating without the necessary certification and permission will face penalties.

Furthermore, Mayor Solomon expressed concern over reports of vendors charging exorbitant prices for goods sold to students.

He emphasized the need for fair pricing practices to ensure affordability for students.

As schools prepare to resume in-person classes, Mayor Solomon’s directive aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students by enforcing hygiene standards among vendors operating near school premises.
