Food for the Poor Guyana Inc. has made a significant donation to the Night Shelter, providing essential items to support the facility’s residents.

The donation was formally handed over today at Help and Shelter’s La Penitence location.

The generous contribution includes adjustable beds, walkers, wheelchairs, and other vital items designed to enhance the quality of life for those residing at the Night Shelter.

Sheila Veerasammy, the administrator of the Night Shelter, expressed her gratitude for the support, highlighting how the shelter’s role has evolved from a temporary refuge to a full-time home for many individuals.

She emphasized that the donation will play a crucial role in enabling the shelter to offer comprehensive services to its residents.

In addition to the donation, Veerasammy noted that the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security is working on constructing a new kitchen at the shelter to better meet the dietary needs of its residents.

Tabitha Barnwell, Distribution Manager at Food for the Poor, announced that the organization plans to extend its support to other elderly homes in Georgetown, starting with the Night Shelter due to its proximity.

The Night Shelter’s recent enhancements, supported by Food for the Poor, are expected to significantly improve the living conditions and services provided to its residents.
