As part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to mitigate the effects of flooding in Region 10, the Office of the Prime Minister, through the Civil Defense Commission (CDC), has distributed over 400 cleaning hampers to residents affected by the floods in Linden.
Prime Minister’s Representative in Region 10, Orin Wilson, along with Regional Coordinator Andrew Forsythe, led the distribution efforts, providing much-needed supplies to the flood-hit communities.
The cleaning hampers are intended to help residents sanitize their homes and surroundings as they recover from the inundation.
Wilson emphasized the importance of the hampers in helping residents clean and sanitize their homes after the floodwaters receded.
He noted that food hampers would also be distributed to provide additional support.
Residents expressed their gratitude for the government’s timely assistance. Samantha Hamid, a local resident, praised the initiative and thanked the officials for their prompt response and support during this challenging time.
Sunita Jacobs, the CDC Chairman of Speightland, shared her first-time experience of the flooding and highlighted the damage it caused, while Patrick Philander, Vice Chairman of the Victory Valley CDC, acknowledged the government’s support and the crucial role it played in the community’s recovery efforts.
Flood impact assessments are ongoing, and additional food hampers are expected to be distributed later today to ensure all affected residents receive the necessary aid.
Over the past few days, heavy rainfall and clogged drainage channels have left several Linden communities inundated.
However, swift action by the Government and the Regional Democratic Council has led to a significant reduction in water levels, alleviating the immediate crisis.
The government’s continued commitment to providing relief and support to affected residents demonstrates a proactive approach to disaster management and community welfare in Region 10.
