The Public Works Ministry in Guyana is actively working to complete five major stellings across the country by the end of 2024, according to Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill.
These stellings are crucial infrastructure projects that aim to improve the lives of citizens in various regions and modernize the country’s maritime sector.
Minister Edghill provided updates on the progress of these projects:
- Kingston Goods Wharf: This stelling is 35% completed.
- Port Kaituma Stelling: Currently at 77% completion.
- Kumaka Stelling: At 18% completion.
- Morawhanna Stelling: Expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2024.
These stellings are being rehabilitated to accommodate the new MV Ma Lisha vessel, which will operate on the Georgetown to North West route.
Additionally, Minister Edghill mentioned the substantial completion of the long-awaited Leguan Stelling, a project that has been ongoing since 2018.
The Leguan Stelling is a significant investment, costing $413 million, and measures 160 by 130 feet.
It is constructed with reinforced pre-stressed concrete piles and features an administrative building, link-span bridge, and pontoon to enhance the efficiency of loading and offloading goods.
The Minister expressed confidence that the Leguan Stelling will be completed early in the new year, bringing relief and improved infrastructure to the residents of Leguan.
These developments reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing transportation and infrastructure across different regions in Guyana.
