First Phase of Linden to Mabura Hill Road to be Completed by September

The first phase of the road, spanning approximately 10 km, is projected to be completed by September of this year.

This is according to Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, who recently held a meeting with Constructora Queiroz S.A., the Brazilian contractor responsible for constructing the Linden to Mabura Hill road.

NCN understands that once finished, the road will stretch approximately 121 kilometers and measure 7.2 meters in width.

Minister Edghill visited the construction site one year after the project’s commencement to assess progress and has since disclosed that the overall completion of the road is expected in June 2025.

The Minister highlighted the complexity of the sub-base preparation methodology for the road.

Additionally, all bridges from Mabura Hill to Kurupakari will be built according to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Standard.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali expressed his intention to engage with the President of China to secure further paving of the road from Mabura Hill to Lethem.

The Brazilian Government has also been involved in the project.

Presently, the road construction project employs around 360 individuals from Linden, with expectations for the workforce to expand to 600 as work intensifies in the coming months.

In December 2020, a contract was signed between the government, the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), and the United Kingdom Government, providing funding of US$190 million for the project.
