Finance Minister Dispels Rumors About Cash Grant Cheque Validity

February 22, 2025

Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, has dismissed misinformation suggesting that the $100,000 cash grant cheques have a limited validity period.

During a visit to distribution sites in Region Six on Friday, he reassured citizens that there is no need for concern over the validity of their cheques.

Dr. Singh refuted claims that the cheques would expire within three days, calling such rumors an attempt to create unnecessary panic.

He clarified that the cheques remain valid for six months, allowing recipients ample time to cash or deposit them at their convenience.

While assessing the distribution process, the Finance Minister commended the efficiency and organization of the distribution centers in Region Six.

He urged citizens not to rush to banks or collection sites unnecessarily, emphasizing that there is no urgency to withdraw the funds immediately.

He also reminded recipients that most banks allow cheque deposits through ATMs, providing an easy and accessible way to access their funds without waiting in long lines.

Dr. Singh highlighted that this one-time cash grant initiative is the first of its kind in Guyana and aims to benefit approximately 600,000 adult citizens.

With over 200,000 cheques already distributed, he acknowledged the extensive registration, verification, and printing efforts that have made the process possible.

As the distribution continues across the country, the government maintains that the initiative will provide direct financial relief to citizens, ensuring a smooth and transparent disbursement process.
