The Courts Optical Boys Under 11 Football competition has reached its semifinal stage, with four teams set to battle for glory at the Ministry of Education ground on Saturday.
The tournament, now in its 11th edition, has seen 32 teams from nine educational districts whittled down to just four, all vying for the coveted title.
The teams advancing to the semifinals are defending champions St. Pius, Marian Academy, Santa Rosa Primary, and Belladrum Primary.
St. Pius, originally defeated by Rosignol Primary in the quarterfinals, got a reprieve after Rosignol was disqualified for fielding an ineligible player.
They now face Marian Academy, coached by Troy Wright, in the second semifinal.
The first semifinal promises to be a thrilling match as Santa Rosa Primary from the hinterland takes on Belladrum Primary from Berbice.
Santa Rosa has been consistent over the years, but Belladrum, a first-time semifinalist, is eager to secure their first-ever championship.
This year’s competition saw teams from across Guyana, including Georgetown, Linden, Essequibo, Berbice, and Bartica, compete in a seven-week-long tournament.
The young players are competing for exciting prizes provided by Courts Mega Store, with sponsorship from Sterling Products Limited, Igloo Ice Cream, Stena Drilling, and the National Sports Commission.
The tournament is approved by the Ministry of Education.
