The fifth installment of the Petra Organisation’s Under-18 Schools Football League has officially been launched, with Republic Bank serving as the title sponsor.
This collaboration aims to continue fostering the development of youth football across Guyana.
Speaking at the launch, Co-director of the Petra Organisation, Troy Mendonca, highlighted the significance of hosting the league, emphasizing its role in nurturing young talent and building competitive spirit among student-athletes.
Republic Bank’s Internal Audit Manager, Oral Rose, praised the league for its contributions to community development and expressed the bank’s pride in supporting initiatives that positively impact youth and sports in the country.
Nicholas Fraser, Head of the Unit of Allied Arts, underlined the importance of structured competitions like this one in encouraging participation and building a pipeline of athletes for future regional and international engagements.
Assistant Director of Sport, Franklyn Wilson, urged participating players to approach the tournament with discipline and passion, highlighting attributes such as teamwork and perseverance as keys to their success both on and off the field.
The league kicks off on Sunday, October 27, at the Ministry of Education Ground, with the first match scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
Chase’s Academic Foundation, the defending champions, will look to retain their title against stiff competition.
