The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Training Center at Providence was the venue for the official launch of the country’s Under-13 Girls Football Championship, attended by CONCACAF President and FIFA Vice President, Victor Montagliani.

This competition, which sees 40 primary school teams from across Guyana, aims to promote greater female participation in sports, focusing on developing young talent and promoting gender equality in football.

The tournament is also significant as it coincides with Montagliani’s first visit to Guyana.

In his remarks, Montagliani emphasized that women’s football is here to stay and under his leadership, it will continue to grow significantly across the region.

He reassured the young players that the future of women’s football is bright and assured them of CONCACAF’s ongoing support.

Wayne Forde, president of the Guyana Football Federation, echoed Montagliani’s sentiments, noting that the Federation is committed to further investing in women’s football, which is steadily gaining momentum.

He highlighted the importance of developing the sport at the grassroots level, and the Federation’s efforts to support this initiative through coaching clusters working with the players.

The tournament, which kicks off on October 26, will feature teams from five districts across the country, all vying for top honors.
