FEDS Co-op Marks Five Years of Operation

By Shawnette Fiedkou

In Linden, the Future Economic Development Strategies (FEDS) cooperative society recently celebrated a significant milestone – its fifth anniversary.

FEDS, a dynamic cooperative society in Linden, commemorated its fifth year of operation with a renewed commitment to fostering further development within its membership and throughout Region 10.

The cooperative society has its sights set on various agricultural ventures, including health and agri-tourism, but perhaps most notably, it eagerly anticipates venturing into hemp cultivation.

With plans to acquire 13,000 acres of land in the region to support its agricultural endeavors, FEDS stands poised as one of the pioneering groups ready to engage in hemp cultivation.

To mark the occasion, FEDS organized a social gathering attended by members and supporters.

Owen Desouza, Chairman of FEDS, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to advancing Linden’s development through agricultural initiatives.

Desouza highlighted the establishment of a coconut village as one of FEDS’ initial endeavors to generate income.

As the cooperative continues to expand, it is expected to introduce more agriculture-based initiatives, guided by its established ten-year goals.

Andrew Harry, a member of FEDS, echoed the sentiment of ambitious plans for Region 10 and Guyana’s development through the cooperative’s initiatives.

Michael Kirton, a key advocate for hemp legalization in Guyana and Co-Founder of the Guyana Hemp Industries, extended congratulations to FEDS on its milestone achievement.

Kirton expressed optimism that more Guyanese, including Lindeners, would join the cooperative, further fueling its growth and impact.

Shenzia Richmond-Persaud from Hemp Youth Guyana also extended congratulations to FEDS.

Notably, FEDS will be participating in Hemp Youth Guyana’s International Hemp Day Race-walk in Linden, further showcasing its commitment to hemp cultivation and community engagement.

The race-walk, scheduled to commence at 7 am on Sunday, will start at the Wismar end of the Wismar/McKenzie bridge and conclude at Block 22, offering participants the chance to compete for trophies and other prizes.

As FEDS celebrates its fifth anniversary, the cooperative society remains steadfast in its mission to drive economic development and prosperity for its members and the wider community of Linden.
