‘Farmers Connect’ App launched to revolutionise agriculture

Farmers across Guyana now have a powerful tool at their fingertips. The Ministry of Agriculture has officially launched the Farmers Connect App, a digital platform designed to empower farmers with real-time information and services.

Today, farmers across the country are taking another step into the future with the launch of the Farmers Connect App, a digital platform designed to put vital information directly into their hands.

Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha highlighted the challenges faced by farmers and how this app will help to solve those problems.

For too long, farmers have faced challenges accessing real-time pricing, receiving timely advisory services, and connecting efficiently with buyers and support agencies. This app will change that,” the minister explained.

Of note is the fact that the app was developed within three months, following a directive from President Dr. Irfaan Ali last year.

The app leverages generative AI technology to provide farmers with crop advisories, soil maps, planting schedules, and direct connections to buyers, agro-processors, and exporters.

“The information in this app, you can connect as a producer, as a farmer, you can connect directly to buyers, agro-processors, and exporters. You can connect directly to them to sell your produce. So this app will help to transform the agriculture sector. Pests and diseases. You can report it through the app,” he added.

The app comes at a time when a significant cultural shift is occurring in Guyana.

The government has taken a lead role in promoting modern, data-driven practices among sectors to enhance efficiency, productivity, and global competitiveness.

As such, the app aligns with the government’s vision of modernizing agriculture and boosting food security.
