In a devastating incident this morning, a fire engulfed a residence at Lot 12 Old Road, Providence, East Bank Demerara, leaving a family of four homeless.
Two children—a 9-year-old son and an 18-year-old daughter with a disability—without a place to call home.
Neighbor Melvin Lall recounted hearing crackling sounds and discovering the neighboring building already engulfed in flames.
The fire rapidly spread, consuming the one-flat wooden structure and destroying everything in its path.
Hope, the occupant of the residence, shared her harrowing experience with NCN News.
She had just stepped out briefly when she received news of the fire.
Despite her efforts to rush back, she found herself unable to salvage any belongings as the flames took hold.
Hope expressed additional distress over losing recently purchased items intended to restart her business, as she was one of the vendors displaced along Red Road, Providence.
Among the lost possessions were essential equipment such as a washing chair, a bed, and two brand-new gas stoves.
Now facing the daunting task of rebuilding their lives, Hope and her family are in urgent need of assistance.
