Approximately 400 residents of Falmouth, a village along the Berbice River, now have access to potable water following the commissioning of a $22.5 million water supply system.
The newly installed system includes a 100-meter potable water well, over 300 meters of pipeline, 55 service connections with standpipes, and solar panels to power the facility.
The project aims to improve water access in the remote community, reducing the need for residents to travel long distances for clean water.
Community members have acknowledged the positive impact of the development, highlighting improvements in daily household activities such as cooking, cleaning, and personal hygiene.
Local leadership has also noted the significance of the project in enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.
The initiative is part of a broader national effort to expand potable water access in hinterland and riverine areas.
Since 2020, the government has increased water coverage in these regions from below 50 percent to over 90 percent, aligning with national development goals to improve living conditions in remote communities.
