Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp outages resolved after being down for 100K+ users Friday

Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger have all been restored after going down for some users on Friday morning into the afternoon, with reports of outages preventing tens of thousands from accessing their social media feeds.

Meta acknowledged issues with the network on its business status page, where it reported “high disruptions” across its ads setup throughout the day, as well as for Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp. The company does not have a public status page for non-business users.

“We are recovering from an earlier outage that caused some advertisers to have trouble accessing or viewing ads reporting, and services are in the process of being restored,” the company wrote. “We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused.”

Several online outage detectors — including virtual private network provider NordVPN and website tracking app IsDown  — reported the connection issues.

Outage tracker website Downdetector reported a peak of roughly 126,000 reports just before 10 a.m. Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger saw a cumulative peak of just over 27,000 outage reports at 9:50 a.m.

By 3:30 p.m., outage reports were down toward zero, and Facebook’s business status page no longer was reporting any internal disruptions.
