ExxonMobil U14 Football Tournament: South Ruimveldt and Waramuri Secure Quarterfinal Spots

The ExxonMobil U14 football tournament progressed to the quarterfinals following an action-packed round of 16 matches held on Saturday at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue.

South Ruimveldt Secondary advanced to the next round with a convincing 4-1 victory over New Amsterdam Secondary.

Devonte Game scored a brace, while Rickford Toney and Jahim Hart added to the tally, securing South Ruimveldt’s place in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Leonora Secondary triumphed over West Ruimveldt Secondary with a commanding 7-1 scoreline.

Quincy Fraser led the charge with four goals, supported by Keon Grant and Abdul Kendel, ensuring Leonora’s comfortable victory.

Chase Academic Foundation narrowly edged out Hope Secondary 3-2 in a tightly contested match to secure their spot in the quarterfinals.

Defending boys’ champion Bartica Secondary also progressed with a 3-1 win over St. John College.

West Minster Secondary faced a tough challenge from Waramuri Primary Top Boys but managed to secure victory in a penalty shootout, winning 5-3 after a drawn match.

In the girls’ tournament, reigning champions Waramuri Primary Top stormed into the quarterfinals with a dominant 7-0 victory over Bushlot Secondary.

Brentia Marks opened the scoring in the 10th minute, followed by a double from Erika Harris in the 20th and 25th minutes.

Shenesa Thomas and Harris completed their hat-tricks, with Tina Williams and Lillianna Bacchus also finding the net to seal the emphatic win.

President College recorded the highest victory of the day with a resounding 12-0 triumph over Institute of Academic Excellence.

Other victorious teams included Bartica Secondary, Charity Secondary, Tucville Secondary, New Amsterdam Secondary, Marian Academy, and Santa Rosa Secondary.

The quarterfinal matches, initially scheduled for today, were postponed indefinitely due to persistent rainfall.

The winning team in both the male and female categories will receive four hundred thousand dollars towards a school project of their choice, with half that amount for the second-place team.
