ExxonMobil to Establish Technical Training College in Guyana’s Region 6

A delegation from ExxonMobil Guyana, led by Vice President and Business Services Manager Phillip Rietema, recently met with the Region Six Regional Democratic Council (RDC) in New Amsterdam to discuss the company’s ongoing and future investments in the region.

As part of its Greater Guyana Initiative, ExxonMobil is set to build a state-of-the-art stadium at Palmyra.

Additionally, the company announced plans to construct a Technical Training College at Port Mourant in collaboration with the Government of Guyana.

President Irfaan Ali is expected to lead a sod-turning ceremony to mark the beginning of construction, with the assimilation facility for practical training already nearing completion.

Phillip Rietema emphasized that the investment in the Technical Training College is not just an investment in the community but a significant investment in the people of Guyana.

The facility aims to train Guyanese individuals to become technicians in various industries, both onshore and offshore.

Rietema highlighted the world-class nature of the training facility, expressing that it would eliminate the need for individuals to leave the country for similar training.

Earlier this week, the Parliamentary Committee of Supply approved $50 million for the startup operations of the Guyana Technical Training College in Port Mourant.

The total estimated investment required to complete the facility is approximately $100 million USD.

During the meeting, ExxonMobil also updated the Regional Democratic Council on its other projects in Guyana.

Rietema mentioned that in addition to the ongoing initiatives, the company has two more approved projects in the construction phase, with the Yellowtail project expected to be online by 2025.

He further stated that there is a fifth project with a deadline at the end of 2026 and a sixth project that could potentially see Guyana producing over 1.2 million barrels per day by 2027.

The establishment of the Technical Training College reflects ExxonMobil’s commitment to contributing to the educational and economic development of Guyana, providing local residents with opportunities for skills development and employment in the evolving energy sector.
