By Tyriq Walters

Linden is gearing up for the third edition of the ExxonMobil Inter-District Kayaking competition, scheduled to take place on July 13 at the Watooka Guest House.

Tournament organizer Deon Anderson has assured supporters of an event filled with high levels of competitiveness and excitement.

Anderson expressed confidence in the preparations, noting that participating teams are in practice mode and ready to deliver thrilling performances.

He emphasized the anticipated rivalries and competitive spirit that will characterize this year’s inter-district competition.

In addition to its sporting significance, Anderson highlighted the tournament’s potential to boost Guyana’s tourism sector.

He sees sports tourism as a burgeoning concept in Linden, with aspirations to expand its reach beyond the regional level, potentially reaching the Caribbean stage in the future.

Safety remains a top priority for the organizers, with comprehensive measures in place to ensure the well-being of participants and spectators alike.

Anderson outlined the deployment of lifeguards, water ambulances, and medical crews to provide immediate assistance if needed, underscoring the family-friendly nature of the event.

Sixteen districts from across Guyana will compete for championship honors, with each team consisting of twelve members across four categories: under 14, under 16, under 18, and open.

Last year, the Rupununi district emerged victorious, setting the stage for another intense competition this year.

The ExxonMobil Inter-District Kayaking competition not only promotes athletic excellence but also fosters community engagement and regional pride, making it a highlight in Guyana’s sporting calendar.
