The excitement surrounding the inaugural ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League continues to build as the event draws closer.
The highly anticipated tournament is set to begin on November 26 at the National Gymnasium and will run until December 7, 2024, at the National Stadium, Providence.
On Friday evening, organizers held a meet and greet event with key stakeholders, as they prepare to launch what is expected to be a groundbreaking sporting spectacle.
The tournament is poised to be the largest-ever cricket event hosted in Guyana and will feature international teams competing in a unique T20 format.
Jamie Stewart, one of the directors of the ExxonMobil-sponsored Guyana Global Super League, described the tournament as an ambitious project that will push boundaries and usher in a new era for global T20 cricket.
He highlighted the support of ExxonMobil and Windsor Estate, both of which played significant roles in bringing the event to life.
Stewart emphasized that this tournament would mark the beginning of an annual cricket tradition in Guyana, with different teams from around the world invited to participate each season.
The competition will feature five teams: Hampshire Hawks, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Lahore Qalandars, Rangpur Riders, and Victoria.
Each team will play four matches, with the top two advancing to the final.
The tournament promises to be a thrilling experience for cricket fans, showcasing some of the best talent in the sport.
Tickets for the event went on sale over the weekend, with prices ranging from $1,000 to $7,000 for all stands.
Tickets are available at box offices in Berbice, Essequibo, and Georgetown, and will be sold on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
This tournament is also Guyana’s first standalone cricket event, fully supported by the government and sanctioned by Cricket West Indies.
ExxonMobil, a long-time sponsor of the Guyana Amazon Warriors, has committed to ensuring the success of the tournament and its continued growth in the future.
With the squads for the competing teams already announced, the stage is set for what promises to be an exciting and historic event in Guyanese sports.
