ExxonMobil Demonstrates Strong Commitment to Local Content

ExxonMobil, along with its contractors, has showcased commendable progress in the arena of local content, making substantial investments and generating employment opportunities for Guyanese citizens.

Since the landmark discovery of oil and gas resources in 2015, ExxonMobil’s expenditure with Guyanese suppliers has exceeded an impressive 1.2 billion US dollars. This significant investment was disclosed by Alistair Routledge, President of ExxonMobil Guyana, who emphasized the company’s engagement with over 1,500 distinct Guyanese suppliers. Routledge underscored that this accomplishment underscores the company’s core objective of bolstering local content by investing in human capital and supporting local enterprises.

Moreover, Routledge revealed that Guyanese nationals constitute an impressive 69 percent of the overall workforce dedicated to the oil and gas sector in the country.

In terms of offshore operations, more than 3,500 workers are stationed in Guyana, including 1,700 local employees. Additionally, over 1,400 women actively contribute to both onshore and offshore oil and gas activities, with 1,300 of them being Guyanese.

ExxonMobil has also made substantial strategic community investments, particularly in education, sports, information and communication technology (ICT), and business development training. The company has established partnerships with key educational institutions like the University of Guyana, as well as initiatives such as WE LIFT, the youth STEM program, and the Elevate ALL initiative.

ExxonMobil’s dedication to local content and community development exemplifies its commitment to fostering sustainable growth and economic empowerment within Guyana. This robust investment is poised to yield long-term benefits for both the company and the nation as a whole.
