ExxonMobil, in collaboration with New Era Entertainment, kicked off its 2023 futsal tournament at the ExxonMobil head office on Tuesday.
The tournament, set to run for nine days, features the participation of 20 teams from Linden and will take place at the recently refurbished Retrieve Basketball Court.
The competition will adopt a round-robin format, with the top four teams securing cash prizes of $1,000,000, $500,000, $200,000, and $100,000 for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place, respectively.
Kenrick Noel, Director of New Era Entertainment, highlighted the commitment to providing an alternative form of social activity through the tournament.
Kenrick Noel expressed, “In this year’s tournament, we will navigate the unforeseen circumstances and deliver another exciting competition for Linden.”
Ryan Hoppie, Community Relations Advisor of ExxonMobil, emphasized the broader goal of the tournament in promoting social engagement beyond the sports arena.
The playing dates are scheduled for November 10, 11, 12, 15, 17, 18, and 22, with the final taking place on the 24th.
Beyond the competition, the winning team will collaborate with ExxonMobil to execute a community project.
Last year, the victorious Team Unknown installed streetlights in the Victory Valley community, showcasing the tournament’s positive impact beyond the sports field.
Through a partnership with New Era Entertainment, ExxonMobil, and the Ministry of Sport, the Retrieve Hard-court has undergone significant upgrades, including a new playing surface, improved washroom facilities, fencing, lighting, and seating accommodations.
The ExxonMobil/New Era Futsal Tournament stands as a testament to the collaboration between the private sector and entertainment industry in fostering community development and providing meaningful opportunities for social engagement.
