Father Joel Thompson of St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Aishalton, South Rupununi, emphasized the significance of Good Friday as a time to practice values such as unity and compassion.
He explained that Christians gather around 3pm, the hour of Jesus’ death, to reflect on his final moments and the profound love that led to his sacrifice.
Customs observed on Good Friday include fasting, abstaining from meat, reading the Bible, and visiting churches.
Additionally, the day encourages acts of charity and compassion towards those in need, fostering a spirit of love and kindness among all Guyanese.
Father Thompson highlighted that Good Friday is not only a day for Christians but for all Guyanese to embrace love and kindness towards one another.
It serves as a reminder of the central message of Christianity, celebrating the victory of life over death and light over darkness.
